Position Overview

By Light Professional IT Services LLC is seeking an experienced Accessibility Research Lead to spearhead research initiatives aimed at enhancing digital accessibility for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is integral to driving innovative solutions and ensuring that all digital services are inclusive and user-friendly for Veterans, including those with disabilities. The Accessibility Research Lead will be responsible for initiating and leading research studies, supporting VFS researchers, and fostering a culture of accessibility excellence. We are seeking an Accessibility Research Lead that is passionate about accessibility and forward thinking beyond just 508 compliance. 

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and lead research studies on specific accessibility topics or areas needing investigation to improve digital services for Veterans. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive research plans, including creating conversation guides and leading research sessions.  
  • Host regular office hours to support Veteran-facing service (VFS) researchers, providing guidance and expertise in accessibility research practices. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into the design and development processes. 
  • Analyze research findings to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for enhancing accessibility. 
  • Document and report research outcomes, providing actionable insights to inform decision-making and strategy development. 
  • Provide training and support to team members on UX research practices and accessibility standards. 
  • Advocate for accessibility-focused research and foster a culture of inclusivity and continuous improvement. 

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • BS in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Proven expertise in UX research practices, including leading research sessions and analyzing findings. 
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams. 
  • Experience in creating research plans and conversation guides tailored to accessibility studies. 

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the VA.gov platform and its accessibility requirements. 
  • Experience in conducting research with assistive technology users and integrating findings into product development. 

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
