Company Overview

By Light Professional IT Services LLC readies warfighters and federal agencies with technology and systems engineered to connect, protect, and prepare individuals and teams for whatever comes next. Headquartered in McLean, VA, By Light supports defense, civilian, and commercial IT customers worldwide.

Cole Engineering Services (CESI), a By Light company, is recognized as a premier provider of modeling and simulation (M&S) training solutions to the Federal Government and industry. Since 2004, CESI has been at the forefront of developing, maintaining, and integrating simulation-based training, serious gaming, technical services, training and other support in live, virtual, constructive, and gaming (LVCG) domains.  CESI also designs, builds and runs infrastructure, platforms, applications and processes that enable cyber training for the integrated multi-domain force. Our vision is to become a worldwide full spectrum LVCG and cyber training/analysis developer, integrator and services provider.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join our live training team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, developing, and deploying computer vision models, with proven expertise in YOLO (You Only Look Once) and experience optimizing these models for mobile platforms and small board computers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, Google Coral). Applicant must be willing to lead small teams in the development of solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced computer vision algorithms, primarily object detection and tracking, using YOLO or similar architectures.
  • Optimize and deploy vision models on resource-constrained environments including smartphones, edge devices, and embedded systems.
  • Lead end-to-end model development from data collection and preprocessing to training, testing, and production deployment.
  • Work cross-functionally with hardware, mobile development, and cloud engineering teams to integrate computer vision capabilities into products.
  • Conduct model profiling and compression (e.g., quantization, pruning) to meet latency and performance targets on edge devices.
  • Stay current with advancements in computer vision, deep learning, and model deployment frameworks.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to technical roadmaps.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field. PhD is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in computer vision, with a focus on deep learning for object detection.
  • Strong proficiency in YOLO (v9, v10, v11), OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and ONNX.
  • Demonstrated experience deploying computer vision models on mobile platforms (Android/iOS) and embedded devices (Jetson Nano/Xavier, Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi Coral, etc.).
  • Proficiency with model optimization techniques such as quantization (e.g., TensorRT, TFLite), pruning, and hardware-specific acceleration.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and C++.
  • Strong understanding of image processing, camera systems, and real-time inference constraints.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience with mobile development frameworks and libraries (e.g., ML Kit, MediaPipe, Core ML).
  • Familiarity with SLAM, visual odometry, or other spatial perception techniques.
  • Experience working in agile development environments.
  • Contributions to open-source computer vision projects or published papers.

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

In accordance with the specifications of a government contract, eligibility for this position mandates U.S. Citizenship status and must be able to obtain a secret security clearance. The precise security clearance requisites will be detailed in the Government's Task Order.
