Position Overview

We are looking for a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Engineer to join our Security Operations Center Information Technology (IT) Operations Technology (OT) team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing SCADA systems monitoring, logging and troubleshooting, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency.


You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system performance, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and provide technical expertise for industrial control systems monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain SCADA systems monitoring solutions in industrial environments to integrate into By Lights Security Operations Center.
  • Configure and manage SCADA hardware and software components if needed.
  • Ensure the continuous monitoring of control systems, identifying and resolving operational issues.
  • Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis for SCADA system failures and downtime.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and updates to SCADA servers, workstations, and network infrastructures.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure system integration with other control systems (DCS, PLCs, etc.).
  • Analyze and optimize SCADA system performance, improving data collection, reporting, and visualization.
  • Participate in the creation of technical documentation, including system designs, configurations, and SOPs.
  • Implement and manage security measures to safeguard SCADA systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Support SCADA-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new installations.
  • Provide training and support to operational staff and end-users on SCADA-related processes.
  • Assist in the development of SCADA software and user interfaces to enhance system usability.
  • Perform system backups, disaster recovery, and other operational tasks as required.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with SCADA systems in an industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC, etc.) and industrial communication networks.
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA software (e.g., Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, GE iFIX, Ignition, etc.).
  • Knowledge of PLCs, RTUs, and field devices used in automation systems.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices in the context of SCADA and OT systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance tuning for SCADA systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with IT/OT convergence and modern industrial control architecture is a plus.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL databases and data analysis.
  • Experience with cloud-based SCADA platforms and remote monitoring.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62443) for SCADA/OT systems.
