Position Overview

By Light Professional IT Services is seeking a Senior Audio Visual Installation Technician to support mission-critical operations for the Department of Defense. This role serves as a technical lead responsible for executing and overseeing the installation, integration, and sustainment of advanced AV/VTC systems in secure environments.

 

The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior technician with deep experience in enterprise AV systems, capable of leading installations, solving complex technical issues, and ensuring systems meet DoD operational and cybersecurity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute installation, integration, and commissioning of complex AV systems across multiple environments
  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings, schematics, signal flow diagrams, and system designs
  • Serve as the on-site technical lead, directing junior technicians and coordinating daily installation activities
  • Install and integrate:
    • Enterprise AV systems and AV over IP (NVX, Dante, etc.)
    • Video walls, large format displays, and projection systems
    • Control systems (Crestron, Extron)
    • DSPs, microphones, and audio distribution systems
  • Perform rack fabrication, cable routing, termination, labeling, and full system testing
  • Conduct system commissioning, validation, and performance optimization
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across AV, control, and network layers
  • Maintain and update as-built drawings, redlines, and configuration documentation
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, DISA, STIG, and cybersecurity requirements
  • Support secure and non-secure VTC systems, including integration into enterprise environments
  • Interface with government stakeholders, engineers, and program managers
  • Support cutovers, upgrades, and sustainment activities for operational systems
  • Travel as required to support installations and mission needs

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • 5–8+ years of professional AV installation experience, with lead or senior-level responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience leading installations in DoD, federal, or high-security environments (SCIF preferred)
  • Advanced experience installing and integrating:
  • AV systems (audio, video, control)
  • Video walls and large-scale display systems
  • Rack systems and structured cabling infrastructure
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and system documentation
  • Proven experience with rack build-outs, cable management, and system commissioning
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across AV and network-integrated systems
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, multicast, QoS)
  • Ability to lead teams, manage tasks, and meet deadlines in mission-driven environments
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with:
    • Crestron NVX / control systems
    • Extron, Biamp, Shure, Cisco VTC platforms
    • AVover IP architectures and enterprise AV deployments
  • Certifications:
    • AVIXA CTS / CTS-I (strongly preferred)
    • Crestron, Extron, or Biamp certifications
  • Experience supporting:
    • DISA or enterprise-level AV environments
    • Watch floors, command centers, or high-visibility operational spaces

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance required (or ability to obtain and maintain)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment 100+ lbs and work in physically demanding environments
