Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer will support the research and development of a novel medical device (Junctional Tourniquet) for the control of traumatic hemorrhage. The device will deal with difficult to treat extremity and junctional (groin, shoulder) bleeds that regular tourniquets cannot reach. Effort includes development and structural optimization of a stand-alone and/or integrated prototype and operational assessment of form, fit, and interaction with existing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, or coordinate the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.
  • Evaluate materials and develop machinery and processes to manufacture materials for development of a medical device for the control of traumatic hemorrhage.
  • Makes material recommendations that meet specialized design and performance specifications.
  • Produces prototype and manufacturing equivalent units that meet scope, cost and schedule constraints

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or related industrial technology, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 
  • Must be experienced in the manufacturing environment working with manual, semiautomated and automated shop and manufacturing equipment.
  • Must have engineering experience in determining and analyzing requirements, and developing those requirements into manufacturing and shop workflow documents.
  • Must be able to recognize the type of engineering and manufacturing capability needed to accomplish work assigned, as well as plan and execute work requirements.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of materials and processes and be able to identify sources for acquiring capability or materials to support the manufacturing process.
  • Must support and have extensive experience in working with quality control processes.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or assigned to the DoD and/or U.S. Military Service.  
  • Have communication skills to effectively interface with military officials, managers, and subordinates.
  • Experience with manufacturing of medical devices.
