Overview

By Light is seeking a Radio Frequence Technician to assit the site lead in preparation, installation, testing, and training of Radio Frequency systems.

 

 By Light is an IT products and services firm specializing in software development, satellite/terrestrial communications, cyber security, and network engineering/design. Headquartered in Arlington, VA, we provide support worldwide to DOD, Federal Civilian, and Health IT customers.

Responsibilities

  • Climbs towers, ladders or operates lift equipment to install when area is inaccessible from ground
  • Bore mounting holes on structures to attach various antenna mounting systems
  • Core drill holes through ceilings, walls, and floor to install sleeved cabling products
  • Assembles, cables, configures, and commissions a variety of radio and related equipment
  • Conducts outdoor and indoor RF, 2-way radio, and Wi-Fi signal strength, path, and facility surveys using signal test equipment and software
  • Performs signal strength test and quality tests, per guidelines
  • As a Site Lead, coordinate customer contact and access to customer premises
  • Performs acceptance tests for conformance to specifications
  • Instructs customer in use of equipment
  • Ensures that documentation is effectively completed and submitted, as appropriate
  • Ensures that the highest quality of service is provided to promote superior customer satisfaction

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Critical thinking to find solutions to antenna and radio installation challenges 
  • Be organized, prompt, professional and efficient with an excellent attention to detail
  • Work independently and quickly with minimum supervision
  • Must be able to identify all subtasks required to accomplish their assigned project, determine tools and material requires, prioritize work and develop a work plan that completion of assigned task within the allotted time
  • Be willing to travel within the United States, and also abroad
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards as well as National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and codes. 
  • Ability to reading and interpreting engineering drawings and design package to ensure the proper installation of engineered design IAW with drawings and engineering documentation
  • Ensure all installation work is properly documented. Prepare As-built packages to include redlines drawings, rack elevations, pictures and test and acceptance plans as required
  • Must have strong problem-solving, as well as the ability to interact well with both internal and external engineers, technicians, and customers
  • Must have the ability to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance/pass a background check

 

Core Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understand DC and AC principles.
  • Understand Radio Frequency principles
  • Skill with power hand tools
  • Experience with low voltage and fiber optic cabling, conduit installation, coaxial cable terminations 
  • Use electrical testing and troubleshooting measurement instruments such as multi-meters, VOMs, and oscilloscopes
  • Be able to lift 50lbs
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Understanding, demonstration, and comfort with expert customer service skills

 

Education and Experience

  • 2 year technical school degree in Electronics and/or, 2 – 4 years working experience in RF and low voltage cabling
