By Light is seeking an experienced Wired and Wireless LAN Systems Engineer to perform network design, development, installation/configuration, packaging, testing, implementing, and Tier 3 level troubleshooting of multi-vendor network-related equipment, including Aruba and Cisco, in support of government solutions ranging from single stand-alone to large-scale enterprise environments.

The primary responsibilies for this position include all efforts involved with engineering (designing, developing, installing, configuring, testing, and implementing) various WLAN/LAN task orders involving wireless network solutions.  Additionally, the candidate will participate in capturing and analyzing technical requirements; documenting detailed system designs, implementation plans, and operations guides of network systems; participate in both project and operational meetings; providing Tier 3 level support utilizing change control processes. The candidate will also serve as a reach-back to field engineering team supporting a variety of infrastructure projects.


  • Responsible for the research and development of existing and new wireless technologies used to optimize and maintain DOD, commercial and corporate and networks. Which include the design, configuration, implementation, testing and troubleshooting of Wireless and LAN components and networks.
  • Working with 3rd party and internal departments in integrating wireless equipment with current WAN and security infrastructure.
  • Optimizing wireless performance while fulfilling security requirements for user/device authentication, encryption and intrusion detection, i.e. 802.1x RADIUS Authentication using EAP-TLS.
  • Responsible for installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and modification of wireless network hardware and software. Which include:
    • Network Switches - Aruba, Cisco, Brocade (Ruckus)
    • Aruba / Cisco WAN architecture in both indoor and outdoor environment
    • Outdoor Point to point and Mesh Architectures
    • Aruba Central / ClearPass/ Airwave management
    • Aruba 8.x Mobility Environment
    • Configuration and testing of QoS for voice & video, VLANS, ACL’s, GRE tunnels, VRRP, etc.
      802.1x RADIUS authentication using EAP-TLS
    • Indoor and outdoor Site Surveys
  • Provides tier 3 support with LAN/WLAN networks, client devices, including hand-held devices and associated LAN and WAN connectivity.
  • Responsible for documentation of installed networks, to include systems design, operations and implementations guides, Visio design drawings, etc.
  • Maintains the security and integrity of all wireless hardware and software.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • This position will require frequent travel (50-75%).  When not on site, Engineers will be assisting in the development of project plans, designs and documentation for future sites as well as providing technical reach back to deployed installation teams.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree, or a AS/AA or two-year Tech School with 8 years of experience; or HS/GED with 10 years of experience; or a BA in a relevant technical area with 5 years of experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in wireless and network communications industry is required
  • Security + / DoD 8140 certification level IAT-I (must have within 3 months of hire)
  • Aruba Certified Mobility Expert v8.x (ACMX) or Aruba Certified Design Expert (ACDX)
  • Aruba Certified Switch Professional (ACSP)
  • Familiarity with Ekahau Survey analysis software or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Aruba’s Airwave management platform
  • Knowledge of Windows Server 200x OS platforms; to include DNS & DHCP functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Visio.
  • Must be able to multi-task,required to provide daily status/updates to supervisors/ managers
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess the ability to identify all subtasks, prioritize work, and determine the tools / material required to accomplish their assigned task within the allotted time.  

  • Candidate must have strong problem-solving, as well as the ability to interact well with both internal and external engineers, technicians, and customers.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional (ACCP)
  • Aruba Certified Mobility Expert (ACMX) (8.x Code Version)
  • Aruba Certified Design Professional (ACDP)
  • Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) or equivalent
  • Certified Cisco Networking Professional (CCNP)

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • Must possess a DOD Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain one and/or pass an equivalent criminal/employment/education background check.
  • By Light does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters; vaccination requirements and testing are subject to the status of the federal contractor mandate and customer site requirements; testing is at the cost of the employee.
