Optical Network Installation Technician, Level 2 employees perform a full range of work involving the installation, turn up, testing and activation of various types of telecommunications platforms, supporting components, racks/cabinets, overhead ladder systems, fiber ducting, and DC distribution equipment with an emphasis on optical hardware and interconnects. Optical Network Installation Technicians, Level 2 shall be able to work independently on upgrades and routine installation efforts, with minimal oversight on large installations. Responsibilities may also be assigned for providing training or guidance to other technicians in the completion of assigned work.
Optical Network Installation Technician, Level 2 can expect to be placed on project assignments where any combination of the following tasking could be expected:
Infrastructure installation and de-installation
Cable management
Cable Terminations, cleaning and testing
Grounding
Documentation Responsibilities
Use of Microsoft Office suite of products for:
Daily Status Report (DSR) submission
Site Completion Report (SCR) submission
Survey Reports
Basic configuration and provisioning of equipment
Advanced configuration and provisioning of DWDM equipment
Optical Network Installation Technician, Level 2 include intermediate knowledge of communications installations. Optical Network Installation Technicians, Level 2 shall have working knowledge and troubleshooting experience with various network devices (i.e., optical DWDM nodes, IP routers, optical/IP switches, etc.) from multiple manufacturers and possess the skill and expertise necessary to install these network devices per the DISN Implementation Standards.
Business communications skills including verbal, written, and graphic should be present, as should exposure to a customer service environment where discretion and professional demeanor are commonplace.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of:
At least three years of experience involving the construction, maintenance, or repair of various types of telecommunications or electronics equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting completion of an accredited vocational or technical curriculum in telecommunications or a related discipline for the required or an equivalent combination of education and experience (see Level 1) for one year only of the required experience. Additionally, a current certification for Ciena 6500 Broadband and Photonic Layer OAM&P is required to fulfil the responsibilities associated with turn up, test, and activation of the Ciena DWDM platforms within the DISN network.
