Overview

Job Summary: 

As the DevSecOps Engineer at the Joint Cyber Training Enterprise (JCTE) team, you will be at the forefront of ensuring the security, functionality, and efficiency of our cyber ranges. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a subject matter expert in cyber range validation and control, guiding the development and execution of robust cybersecurity measures. You will oversee ad-hoc customer technical requirements and synchronize priorities across functional areas to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure cyber ranges.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for technical discussions with customers, ensuring their needs are met while maintaining the integrity of the cyber ranges.
  • Utilize your expertise in containerization (Kubernetes, Rancher, Docker) to automate range deployment and management processes.
  • Implement environment orchestration tools (AWX, Crossplane, Terraform) to streamline range configuration and administration.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Linux, repos, deployment, and Linux virtualization (KVM) to optimize range performance.
  • Utilize your experience with virtualized network environments (VMware vCenter, NSX, VxLAN) to design and maintain resilient network architectures.
  • Leverage scripting/coding skills (Python, Bash) to automate routine tasks and enhance range efficiency.
  • Implement automated testing methodologies (Jenkins, Zypher) to ensure the reliability and security of range environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain VM templates using tools such as Packer, Ansible, and Puppet.

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Intermediate knowledge of the Joint Events Life Cycle (JELC) and  defensive and offensive cyber tools
  • Expert working knowledge of networking, to include: DNS, routing, basic to advanced TCP/IP skills and troubleshooting. 
  • Background in MS, AD, Security Onion, and VMWare
  • Demonstrated an understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Identity Management (IdM) and Single Sign On (SSO) using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).
  • Translate cyber mission force training and mission rehearsal goals into actionable event environments.
  • Support cyber range event design and execution
  • Provide subject matter expertise on architecture, authentication and system security
  • Fulfill regular on-call responsibilities
  • Drive continuous process improvement across all event activities.
  • Provides expert-level IT, virtual environment, and network support functions.
  • Must be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment and able to work with a range of engineers holding a diverse set of skills at differing levels of experience.
  • Be sensitive and flexible to the needs and requirements of the customer.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience with the tools and technologies mentioned above, with a strong emphasis on automation and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing cybersecurity challenges.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, AWS Certified Security – Specialty) are a plus.

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • TS SCI security clearance and will require to undergo a CI if selected. Security Clearance requirements will be specified in the Government's Task Order.
