Company Overview

By Light is looking for an experienced Technician on the western side of the U.S. to perform the below responsibilities.  Commonly visited locations will include San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Seattle. Applicants located near major airports will be preferred.

 

Technicians will work on IT implementation projects for the DoD (DISA, Navy) and commercial vendors. They will apply knowledge of DISA/DoD IT network infrastructure to assignments through the application of technical concepts, practices, and procedures.  Responsibilities include performing equipment installations, network infrastructure build-out, mounting telecommunications hardware, cable/fiber installation, terminations, testing, and pre-commissioning.   Technicians will complete these actions across the U.S. and occasionally OCONUS on their own or leading small teams.  Travel is based on GSA rules and will generally consist of flying or driving to one or two sites per week.  Ciena, Juniper, Cisco and Sycamore (Coriant) installation experience is preferred. 

Responsibilities

Level 2 Network Installation Technicians can expect to be placed on project assignments where any combination of the following tasking could be expected:

 

  • Telecommunications/IT Implementation
    • Hardware/software installation of networking equipment
    • Perform pre-commissioning hardware with base configurations.
    • Circuit wiring, inspection, testing, and activation
    • Network node decommissioning and de-installation
    • Installation of equipment including racks, power, grounding, cabling, ironwork, etc.
    • Equipment installations that include network routers, servers, patch panels, cryptographic material, switches, firewalls, and timing and synchronization
    • Perform advanced troubleshooting of telecommunication circuits
    • Proficiency with JDSU (or equivalent) network test equipment
    • Perform Small to Large sized installations with minimal support
    • Perform telecommunication site surveys
  • Engineering
    • Utilize baseline equipment connectivity diagrams to resolve site specific connectivity challenges.
    • Must be able to complete job close out documentation (Site Survey Reports, Engineering Drawings, Completion Reports, etc.) at home using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Communication
    • Communicate with Test and Acceptance staff to ensure remote access to network devices
  • Leadership
    • Direct and task organize team of 2 to 5 Network Installation Technicians from deployment to installation close-out

Required Experience/Qualifications

  • Candidates may be based anywhere in the US, but must be open to at least 80% travel to CONUS and OCONUS
  • 3+ years of experience including network infrastructure build-out, mounting telecommunication hardware, cable/fiber installation, cable/fiber terminations and cable/fiber testing.
  • 3 + years of experience installing network routers, servers, patch panels, cryptographic material, switches, firewalls, timing and synchronization and communications devices
  • Prior experience with Juniper/Cisco/Sycamore (Coriant)/Ciena products
  • Must be familiar with ANSI/TIA standards
  • Must have the ability to work independently or as a leader of a team
  • Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft office products (PowerPoint, Excel, VISIO, Word) as necessary for reporting, red-lining, and communicating.
  • High School Diploma required

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • DoD or military experience in an IT or network infrastructure AFSC/MOS/civilian position
  • Strong preference for candidates with background with Juniper, Cisco, and Ciena devices
  • Preference for candidates that have worked in DoD/DISA IT network environment
  • OEM networking certifications
  • BICSI Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher is desired but not required

Special Requirements/Security Clearance

  • Minimum Secret security clearance
  • Willingness to travel 80% of the time individually or with other team members to meet installation assignment requirements

Physical Demands

  • Ability to type, communicate via telephone and sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to raise or lower an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) in excess of 50lbs.
